Day 3 - Tak Fyrir Reykjavik!

On our last day in Reykjavik, we finally walked up to Hallgrimskirkja (even though its probably the first stop for most visitors, and is right next to our apartment...we hadn't been there yet).  My parents and Ryan (if you squint really hard you can see them in the far right window) took the elevator up so Ry could stand beneath the church bells as they rang every 15 minutes.  We opted not to go so that we could holler and wave at Ryan (you know, like crazy people) from down below.

Once inside the church I leaned over to my brother Joey and whispered that per my LP guidebook, the church had a very impressive, massive organ.  His response? "Oh, like me!"  (Note: I wisely backed away so the lightning bolt wouldn't strike me too.)

After touring the church, we went to the National Museum of Iceland.  Academics that we are, we bolted right past the exhibits and headed straight for the children's dress up area so we could have some REAL fun.

For just $19.99 per month, you could feed this little Icelandic boy all the minke whale* and fermented shark** his little heart desires!

*Chewy, fatty, full of dark blood and just foul (to me anyway).
**Slimy, smelled like formaldehyde and unable to remove the stench/aroma from my mouth for an hour afterward.

Seriously, we spent a lot of time in the 'children's' play area.

Meet Iceland's newest cardinal, Father Joey!  Parents...hide your children.

Right near the museum there was a giant park and pond full of ducks, so we brought a bagful of bread for Ryan to feed them.  After the initial fear of fowl aggressively charging at him, he totally got into it.  :-)

Not only do we have a park right outside our front door, but there is also another one right across the street.  This makes our son very, very happy.  So glad we traveled over 6,000 miles so we could hang out at the park everyday.  :-)

Last night (it gets dark around 9:30pm) we took over there just before dinner and let him romp around.  And since Joey and I can never stand to be bored, we hosted an Icelandic Summer games.

I'm posting a video of one of the events below (left handed balance beam sumo wrestling) between Rich and Joey (check out Joey on the left as he warms up/gets into the zone just before the start of the event).  Hysterical.  Not nearly as hysterical as when he chased some sheep in a field this morning, but almost.
