Apple picking with the Spellings!

What do you do when daddy misreads a webpage about when apple season is and you drive 90 minutes to an apple farm and then see nothing but a sea of bare apple trees in winter hibernation?
First, you eat homemade pie. Three different kinds. This helps reduce the sting.

Then you panic...because you've been selling this moment to your two-year old for days now, and he's very, veeeeery excited to pick apples. Thankfully, Joey and I come from a fine line of bullsh#$^ers, so he and I thought of the same thing to do at the same time. So while he ran into the shop to buy some apples and then dashed off into the orchard, I distracted Ryan.

And a few minutes later...ta-da! Whaddaya know? Ryan spied some beautiful red apples in the apple orchard!!!

Really, it was quite exciting for him. He eagerly "picked" about 5-6 apples!

Some were easier to pick than others!

Ryan was so happy afterwards that he started to eat two different apples simultaneously (and why not? There were only 5-6 ripe apples in the whole, entire orchard and he found every single one of them!) So while the adults were a little bummed out, Ryan certainly had a great time, and of course, that's all that matters. :-) Candy Spelling (she who used to toss sea shells on the beach so her kids could find them) would have been proud.
After apple picking, we drove over to Gilroy so we could hit up some outlet shops and so Ryan could go on a few rides. This was Ryan's favorite ride three months ago...and it was still his favorite on this trip too. :-) Here's to more success tomorrow!
