Week 6!

The weekend was bananas, but right now, at this moment...I'm sitting in bed, reading glasses perched atop my nose, with both a magazine (O magazine) AND a book (the Leavers) next to me. And this...this is heaven.

On Friday I was at school, in fifth grade...and it was a little rougher than I'd expected. Only because I had a very upset student, and a strange interaction with another adult. I also missed one of Ryan's school performances for the first time. So overall, a little frustrating, but the evening was much better because of the company of great friends and some delicious tapas.

Saturday...was a doozie of a day. Early 3:50am wake up call, sixteen mostly cool miles with friends before the sun started to blaze, a lunch date for Ry with a friend, some frolicking at a friend's pool with Ana & Ry's friend, followed by a rocking birthday party for the world's cutest 3-year old until 9pm (Rich & Ry had to leave at one point to see a cool magic show, but they came back for me). It all left me feeling uber content/happy, but super exhausted because I didn't get to bed until about 10pm.

Coolest art fundraiser ever...artists create/donate thousands of custom, one[-of-a-kind ceramic bowls, you pick the one you like, fill it with cold somen noodle salad...repeat with a smaller bowl and gelato. Love it.
So Sunday was all about sleeping in (6:30am is sleeping half the day away for the senior crowd) and doing nothing. We had a few AM errands and chores, but those were done by noon. The rest of the day was all about fun for the boys (Ry, his cousin and friend)- they even rode their bikes to go and get  Icees (a childhood right of passage). So while Rich was at rehearsal for four hours- I got to sit in bed, read, write, ignore the two piles of clean laundry in need of folding and annihilate the 'ono island-grown treats from the Farmers Market my mom and dad dropped off this weekend...vibrant, juicy dragon fruit and lightly roasted macadamia nuts.

In many ways, it was the perfect weekend- fun, family, friends...tiring, but most great things usually aren't easy.

This week Mon & Tue I'm the classroom, followed by a day of HR report writing on Wed and school volunteering duties on Fri...so I'll have to get creative with my workouts. This is the start of my 6th week of training, and though I haven't really dropped any real weight, I feel stronger, faster and in better shape than I've been in years, so that's a plus. My knee is no better or worse, but I'm grateful it's holding at the same level of discomfort. It gives me hope that maybe it'll cooperate on the really long runs that are coming up.

I think/hope that this will be another good week even though I work more, because I have a short long run scheduled for this weekend (so no pain/suffering), and our railing is finally starting to go in on the lanai (after a 2-3 week delay)! After this step, there is only paint/tile left, so the end is is almost in sight.

It's also the last week of rehearsal for Rich, which means shortly, he will return to being almost like a normal person with a few nights off per week. This week he's gone from 6-9:30 weekdays, and on Sun he's gone from 2-7 at tech rehearsal. It's been many months of non stop rehearsals, so it will almost be odd to see him so much once he's done.

All right, break time is over. Time to go pick up my favorite 9-year old. ;-)
