Today marks my sixth consecutive day of house painting. I'm pretty sure a professional painter would have been done in their sixth hour, but they're also getting paid. I estimate it'll be another couple of weeks before Rich and I finish up our painting jobs, but we're solidly halfway there as of today, I'd say.
And once we're done, we will be able to rest for about five whole minutes before noticing 17 other critical house issues that are in desperate need of attention- the rusting kitchen appliances (only a few years 'old') that are in need of polishing, burnt out light bulbs in our kitchen, a mushy compost pile in need of dry, brown grass, screens so dusty you can write your name on them, new patio chairs in desperate need of waterproofing (already stained by children), a pile of tax paperwork in need of attention, floors as dusty as a barn, chipped tiles that need to be replaced, recyclable signs for our cans that need, pineapples being choked out by passion fruit that need to be relocated, and a hibiscus 'shrub' that will soon tower over our house, and possibly, planet Earth. The list really is endless, and those are just the repairs I can see from where I sit. ;-) Eventually, I'll get to them, at a glacial pace. But it will take me weeks, because I am still (as previously mentioned) 'soft' in my advanced years, and lazy.
But you know, it's an incredible privilege and lifelong dream to have a roof over our heads, and it's worth the time/cost to maintain our sanctuary. The only thing that would make it better is not sharing ownership of our sanctuary with the bank for the next 25 years. ;-)
