Excitement at age 8

Last week, Ry's class had a curriculum presentation at his school assembly...which he loves. And later in the week, he was also promoted to a green belt at karate. He told me that morning it was the first time he couldn't wait to go to karate practice. ;-)

This week, he performed in his interest group's magic show, and his daddy came to school for two days to help teach the drama class some improv basics. And to top it all off? Tonight he went on his first roadside bike ride (I ran alongside far behind him)! He said it was a little scary, especially the semis and the motorcycles...but he really liked it. I feel really bad that he has to pump his scrawny little legs up every hill (since we didn't realize he needed a bike with gears when we bought this one a few months back). I can't wait to get his next bike, as I foresee many mother-son bike/run excursions together.

He's lit up like a Christmas tree...with forward, side and rear lights, and a fluorescent yellow shirt. Also, a helmet and elbow/knee pads. He is clearly the child of an overprotective, Asian mother, and obviously destined for great popularity and 'cool kid' status.
Who's ashamed of both their parents being on campus? Not this kid. He wanted to hold both our hands. (Again...see the 'cool kid' status comment above). ;-)
He's had some pretty cool weeks, and thanks to his aunty and uncle...his weekend will be even better. They've planned quite the weekend for him and his cousins.

I'm almost halfway through my second straight week of sub teaching, and though it's tiring, I appreciate being back on campus. It feels like I never left. ;-) I'm also doing my best to ramp up my runs a bit since I got some new shoes and sports bras (I have a new, icky 5-inch purple scar from some heinous sports bra chafing 3-4 weeks ago). I also got some new chewable salt tablets that a new running friend introduced me to (trust me when I say it's the little things that can make a very mundane, very sweaty run a bit more enjoyable). Last weekend's 13.1-miler marks three consecutive weekends of half marathon distances...something I haven't been able to do in a year. I can't say that they're speedy or effortless...but it's something.

All right, off to bed. I have 24 smiling faces to greet tomorrow morning, and I need to have my game on. :-) G'night.
