Day 6 - Library, Smorresbrod, Rivoli, Nyhavn at night

On our final full day in Copenhagen, we opted to head to Scandinavia's largest public library. It's made up of two very distinct buildings- the 'old' section is made of red brick, and reminds me of Harry Potter. The 'new' section is a sleek, modern glass building nicknamed 'The Black Diamond.'

The library was closer to the older government building section of town...

This was the view with the library behind us.
And this was the view of the 'old' library, which faced that garden.
Connected to the old library, was The Black Diamond, which sat along the waterfront. The views from the ground floor cafe were...STUNNING. Seriously. The public library I go to smells like body odor and faces a municipal parking lot. I'm gonna say they won the award for ambiance by a hair over Kailua Kona.
The interior of the Black Diamond - not shown just beneath the glass bridge are the escalators. Escalators!!! In a public building! Our library is so broke is opens at NOON on Tuesdays! Good grief.
Once up the escalators of the Black Diamond, you can walk across to the 'old' library, where Hogwarts wizards could be seen studying among the wooden card catalogs.

After suffering from a severe case of bitter library envy, we walked over to the nearby Modern Design Museum (prominent art patrons can't help themselves) so Joey could again, browse, and we could...scoot.

...and eat smorresbrod. The verdict? Pretty damned delish!

The museum had a modern playground outside...Ryan is hidden somewhere in this picture.
It's pretty crowded at the museum playground though...so you might not be able to spy him.

Because a naughty lady who went to the Ice Bar kept her brother's ice shot glass that afternoon (they toss them, so I kept ours walked home with it), we were able to fill it with a few shots of vodka to go with his nightly beers (those bottles in the background). Sadly, it melted during Ryan's turn to take shots of apple juice...and it made a mess.

Our evening was spent walking around town, with a return visit to Nyhavn (my third of the trip, but it was only minutes from the apartment).

There were a few more people there at night, but I was far more excited about the two wild swans I saw swimming in the canal. Seriously, I've seen them in zoos many times, but never cruising around the city at night!
