My excuses, in order? Returned home to the Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year...went on 4-5 interviews in the month of January...got that job and started it in early February (with only a 30 min. period between my old job and new)... And since my hire? It's been two months of absolute craziness. Although I love everything about my new job (Director of HR for a hospitality group), it's been a grueling roller coaster (thank you, COVID-19). There were many 10-12 hour days, not seeing much of Ryan, homeschooling after work, commuting between properties/islands, etc.
Needless to say, after 4-5 months of total insanity, I'm slowly finding my new normal, with a few extra hours on my hands. I'm still working full time, but will be doing a few hours from home, and things are less 'new' and time consuming, so I'm a little more time efficient.
We had a trip planned in March to Paris (hello, coronavirus hot bed!) and Croatia, but cancelled it about a week or two prior to our date of departure given the circumstances. That's not to say that was an easy, or finished process. We were not able to successfully cancel a good number of pre-paid reservations- Croatia Airlines (we had FIVE flights with them), Lufthansa failed to refund us a dime (despite promising to do so), the Airbnbs/Hotels.com refused any cancellations despite being unable to fly there, etc. About the only refunds issued? The Eiffel tower tickets (since they closed), and anything booked on Booking.com. Everyone else...sucked. So we're going to eat some change on this failed trip, but at least we didn't fly into countries, sitting in quarantine day after day, in one apartment after the other, get stuck at airports due to cancelled flights, catch the virus, etc.
We would liberally have been quarantined in both Paris and Croatia the entire visit, gotten flooded out in Dubrovnik, endured an earthquake in Zagreb (all while quarantined), then flown back to Kona and been quarantined at home another 2 weeks as well. needless to say, we averted a travel disaster. And honestly, we've had our share of travel hiccups, but this would have been by far, the worst, had we chosen to risk it. So glad Rich was tracking it, and made the right call (I was too busy at work to really focus on the issue, so trusted his judgement).
But that's all said and done, and for now, let's get back to Siem Reap...
Siem Reap's hotel was by far, the most luxurious digs we enjoyed while there (Cyclo d'Angkor). It was hard to leave it, but we wanted to enjoy our final day in the city...
Breakfast buffet each day
We did not lose weight in Cambodia, as the food was plentiful at each hotel's breakfast buffet.
Our first stop was the local market to get some souvenirs to bring home for Ryan's many teachers at school, sports and his hobbies. Although we could not bring back any meat/fish, we did find local cuisine and clothes in great abundance (for Ryan).
We'd been wanting to ride one of these newer tuk tuks, and finally got to! Our driver was a riot too.
Ryan loved the daily freshly made smoothies, something we can't normally afford in the US regularly.
That night we had even more fried rice cream, smoothies, and dinner out.
We had a lovely dinner out since we couldn't locate the lady/her daughter's little bbq stand from a few night's prior. Ryan was feeling tired, so he rested while we waited for our dinner!
We also went back to our favorite fish spa and foot massage place!
The night ended with ever more souvenir shopping, mostly clothes for Ryan, as Rich and I were basically obese by Cambodian standards. I think Rich tried on a pair of shorts that were like, triple-XL and did not fit them. :-D
